Editor's welcome
Welcome to the final issue of the season for Capital News Online. It
is with great pride that we leave you with this collection of stories
for the summer months.
We start with an overlooked necessity of life in the outdoors: topographic
maps. Killeen Kelly reports on the proposed phasing out of paper maps
to make way for digital versions. As she found, however, not everyone
is excited about this change.
Next up is Carol Crabbe's look at the ever-increasing threat of identity
fraud, particularly for students, and how to protect yourself from this
nightmare.
Anna Piekarski highlights the problems municipalities are facing finding
the money to repair crumbling bridges.
Jennifer Young explores a possible breakthrough in the search for a cure
for type 1 diabetes.
Laura Moses visited a Canadian Forces recruiting centre to find out how
long it takes to become a soldier.
Finally, Stephanie Farrington looks at the behind the scenes preparations
for the upcoming Emily Carr exhibit at the National Art Gallery this spring
and summer.
We hope you enjoyed the last four issues of Capital News Online. We know
you will want to see the work of a new group of reporters in the fall.
All the best,
Lee Moss
